What Is Gentoo Coating?

A Smarter Way to Fight Corrosion Across the UAE

Gentoo is clear, ultra-thin at just 4–6 microns — roughly 10 times thinner than a human hair — and forms a barrier that is simultaneously hydrophobic (repels water), oleophobic (repels oils and most solvents), pinhole-free, and abrasion-resistant. It adds protection without adding visibility. Load markings, safety colours, equipment identification, and compliance labels remain fully intact after treatment.

Most protective coatings perform adequately on flat, accessible surfaces. Gentoo does something fundamentally different — it conforms to every surface it encounters. Welds. Threads. Fastener heads. The tight chain links and crevice gaps where salt water pools and conventional coatings simply cannot reach. That is where corrosion begins in the UAE's offshore, port, and industrial environments. And that is precisely where Gentoo delivers.

Developed in the United States through a military Small Business Innovation Research programme — first to shed mud and moisture from F-16 fighter jet canopies, then to protect U.S. Navy landing gear and stainless steel cables from saltwater corrosion — Gentoo has since been proven across heavy industry, marine operations, and infrastructure worldwide. As the authorised UAE distributor and applicator, we bring this technology directly to operators across every emirate.

Six Properties. One Coating. Complete Industrial Protection.

Why UAE Industries Choose Gentoo

A military-grade protective coating engineered for the UAE's most demanding environments — oil platforms, port infrastructure, industrial plants, and electrical installations. Ultra-thin. Crystal clear. Exceptionally durable.

1. Anti-Corrosion Barrier

Dense, low-porosity polymer physically blocks electrolytes and corrosive ions — while its insulating properties interrupt galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals in contact.

2. Easy-Clean Surface

Salt crust, petroleum residue, bird fouling, and graffiti release far more readily. Less water, fewer chemicals, and significantly less time spent on routine maintenance.

3. Hydrophobic & Oleophobic

Repels both water and oil. Salt spray, brine, crude residue, and industrial fluids bead and roll off instead of dwelling on critical metal surfaces

4. Crystal Clear Finish

Completely transparent at 4–6 microns. Load ratings, safety markings, colour coding, and equipment ID remain 100% visible and fully compliant after treatment.

5. Proven & Patented

Independently tested with the U.S. Air Force. Patented in the USA, EU, and Canada. Shortlisted in the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Rust Busters Challenge.

6. Conformal Coverage

Flows into welds, threads, fastener heads, and chain links — reaching the precise surfaces that conventional brush-applied coatings consistently miss.

Technical Performance

Engineered to Address Corrosion at a Materials Level — Not Just Slow It Down

Corrosion in the UAE's industrial sector is structural and financial, not merely cosmetic. Salt-laden coastal air, offshore brine exposure, sour gas environments in oil & gas, and galvanic coupling between dissimilar metals in marine and electrical assemblies all drive metal degradation at rates that routinely outpace standard coating design life — particularly at welds, edges, and fastener connections where conventional coatings are consistently thinnest.

Gentoo addresses this at a materials science level. Its sol-gel polymer matrix is dense, low-porosity, and electrically non-conductive. This creates three simultaneous protection mechanisms that work together rather than relying on film thickness alone.

1. Physical Barrier

Gentoo’s dense, low-porosity film physically separates the metal substrate from the chlorides, electrolytes, and corrosive ions that drive the electrochemical corrosion process. The barrier is conformal and pinhole-free — meaning it covers every surface geometry, not just flat faces.

2. Hydrophobic Repellency

Gentoo’s very low surface energy causes water, brine, and moisture-laden air to bead and roll off rather than spreading and dwelling on the surface. The less time a corrosive agent remains in contact with metal, the slower the corrosion cycle progresses.

3. Electronic Insulation

Gentoo’s non-conductive polymer film interrupts the electron flow that drives galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals in contact. This is especially valuable in offshore structural assemblies, marine rigging hardware, and industrial electrical connections where steel, aluminium, copper alloys, and stainless steel are routinely joined.

Simple to Integrate

Applied in One Coat. Integrated Into Your Existing Schedule.

Gentoo does not require specialist application equipment, abrasive blast cleaning, or extended downtime windows. It is a two-part system mixed together and applied in a single coat using whichever method suits your operation — from HVLP spray on large industrial assets to targeted brush application on specific components.

1. Mix

Combine Part A and Part B in equal parts by weight — not by volume. Allow to hydrolyze for 90–120 minutes before application. This activates the sol-gel chemistry that delivers Gentoo’s protection properties.

2. Prepare

The substrate must be clean and dry. Light surface abrasion is recommended on bare metal or fully cured existing coatings to maximise adhesion. Gentoo requires significantly less surface preparation than conventional epoxy or zinc-rich primer systems.

3. Apply

HVLP spray is the preferred method for large areas and complex geometries — Gentoo flows naturally into threads, chain links, crevices, and weld details. Brush, roller, dip coat, and flow coat methods are also effective for targeted applications.

4. Cure

Allow to cure fully at ambient temperature before returning to service. A single coat delivers the complete 4–6 micron protection layer. Refer to the Technical Data Sheet for curing parameters at UAE ambient temperatures.

Operational Impact

Lower Your Maintenance Cost. Keep Your Assets in Service Longer.

In the UAE's offshore fields, port terminals, and heavy industrial facilities, maintenance costs compound quickly. Every hour a crane is offline for repainting, every scaffold erected on splash-zone steel, and every drum of chemical descaler consumed during a cleaning cycle carries a direct financial cost. Gentoo shifts those economics — not by eliminating maintenance, but by dramatically changing how often it is needed and how long it takes.

Surfaces treated with Gentoo shed contamination rather than absorbing it. Cleaning cycles become faster and less chemically aggressive. Because Gentoo slows the corrosion cycle at its most vulnerable points — welds, edges, and fasteners — full recoating intervals extend. Equipment stays in productive service for longer between shutdowns.

And because Gentoo is transparent and applied in a single, ultra-thin coat, it integrates into your existing maintenance schedule during planned windows. No colour changes. No compliance disruption. No extended downtime.

  • Fewer pressure-wash cycles — less water consumption and less chemical use
  • Extended recoating intervals — fewer full shutdowns for strip-and-repaint
  • Faster turnaround on port, offshore, and plant maintenance windows
  • Reduced scaffolding and access costs on elevated or hard-to-reach structures
  • Less unplanned downtime driven by corrosion-related equipment failures
